Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. I read those books so many times that there were whole sections I probably could have recited by heart.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“So many things are possible just as long as you don’t know they’re impossible.” —The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Roald Dahl, Kate DiCamillo, and C. S. Lewis

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

When I was little, I wanted to become a professional reader. Writing seemed like the next best thing.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Never stop reading and asking questions.
