Lerner Publishing Group Partners with Benetech to Make Books Accessible to Children in the US with Reading Disabilities

Lerner Publishing Group™ has teamed with Benetech to provide accessible books via the Bookshare collection, for children in the US with reading disabilities. Lerner’s entire eBook catalog of more than 7,000 titles will be available in accessible formats on the Bookshare platform and other preferred assistive technology platforms. With Bookshare access, people with dyslexia, blindness, cerebral palsy, and other reading barriers can customize their experience to suit their learning style and find virtually any book they need for school or the joy of reading.

New accessible formats of Lerner’s award-winning books will be available for screen readers with Braille formatting, large font, ebooks in audio, audio + highlighted text, and other formats. These accommodations will be available for students with reading disabilities on devices including smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, computers, and assistive technology devices.

“We are thrilled that Lerner’s entire catalog of picture books, nonfiction, YA and middle grade novels, graphic novels, and series will now be accessible to all readers,” said Adam Lerner, Publisher and CEO of Lerner Publishing Group. “At Lerner we believe that learning is a constant process and our new partnership with Bookshare will allow a larger reading audience to engage with our books.”

“Benetech is committed to ensuring that every student regardless of ability can access the books they need to read, learn, and achieve,” said Michael Johnson, Vice President of Content, Benetech. “Schools can choose Lerner books from our Bookshare collection, confident that they will be able to easily provide learning materials in accessible formats for their students with dyslexia, vision loss, and other learning differences. Lerner’s commitment to serving the learning needs of all students at the same time and with equal importance is a stellar example for the k-12 publishing industry.”
