Millbrook Press and Carolrhoda Books Editorial Director Carol Hinz Named a 2018 Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Lerner Publishing Group is pleased to announce that Millbrook Press and Carolrhoda Books Editorial Director Carol Hinz has been named a 2018 Publishers Weekly (PW) Star Watch honoree. PW Star Watch identifies and celebrates members of the U.S. and Canadian publishing communities who are on the rise and making an impact on the publishing industry. As one of the forty semifinalists, Hinz will attend the PW Star Watch party in New York on September 12, 2018, where the winner of the fourth annual award will be named and honored.
As Editorial Director of Millbrook Press and Carolrhoda Books, Hinz’s books have collected starred reviews and national awards. Sachiko: A Nagasaki Bomb Survivor’s Story by Caren Stelson received starred reviews from Booklist and School Library Journal, was longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award, and was named a 2017 Robert F. Sibert Informational Honor Book. Hinz’s other accolades include starred reviews for Can I Touch Your Hair? Poems of Race, Mistakes, and Friendship by Irene Latham and Charles Waters, illustrations by Sean Qualls and Selina Alko; Dazzle Ships: World War I and the Art of Confusion by Chris Barton, illustrations by Victo Ngai; and One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of the Gambia by Miranda Paul, illustrations by Elizabeth Zunon. In 2018, Sea Otter Heroes: The Predators That Saved an Ecosystem written by Patricia Newman received a starred review from Kirkus and was named a Robert F. Sibert Informational Honor Book.
