Angelina Jolie and Professor Geraldine Van Bueren Partner with Amnesty International to Present New Young Adult Nonfiction Book Know Your Rights and Claim Them

MINNEAPOLIS, MN— This October, Zest Books™, an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group™, presents Know Your Rights and Claim Them: A Guide for Youth, a new young adult nonfiction book from actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian Angelina Jolie; professor Geraldine Van Bueren; and human rights organization Amnesty International. Providing a timely look at children’s rights and the young activists who fight for them, Know Your Rights and Claim Them encourages young people to educate themselves and stand up for the rights they may not even know they possess.

Know Your Rights and Claim Them details the rights promised in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, starting with the history of child rights, and provides a clear description of the types of rights that every child possesses no matter who they are or where they live. It also highlights the powerful work of young activists across the world and acts as a guide to help navigate the law and take action.

“Today we have youth engaged and ready to fight. But many struggle with misinformation from adults, a lack of awareness of their rights, and a lack of knowledge of how to use the specifics of their rights, applying them to the country and circumstances in which they live,” said humanitarian Angelina Jolie. “We need to give them the tools to strengthen their fight and empower them. Amnesty, Geraldine, and I hope to get these books into the hands of young people, and for them to be a guide that they can carry with them and use. Not just to inform them, but to activate them and serve as a source of reference where needed.”

Unprecedented numbers of children are protesting around the world, in the streets and online, against the climate emergency, racism and gender inequality, among other issues. Know Your Rights and Claim Them is the perfect text to inspire and inform teenagers to claim their rights, no matter who they are or where they live.
