Lerner Celebrates 60 Years of Publishing Children’s Books
May 14, 2019
MINNEAPOLIS, MN—Lerner Publishing Group, one of North America’s largest independent book publishers for children and young adults, is proud to celebrate 60 years of creating books that educate, entertain, and empower young people. In 1959, Harry Lerner founded the company with four titles published for children to read at doctor’s offices to comfort them about common childhood illnesses. Six decades later, Lerner Publishing Group has more than 7,000 titles in print and releases more than 700 new titles each year for both the trade and school and library markets.
As a small thank you to the educators, librarians, booksellers, and industry professionals who have been vital to Lerner Publishing Group’s success, the company will be hosting anniversary giveaways at tradeshows throughout the year. Lerner is also celebrating 60 Throwback Thursdays with covers and stories pulled from the company’s archives on the Lerner blog, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
“From Michael L. Printz Award Honorees, to a National Book Award Finalist, to Coretta Scott King and Robert F. Sibert Award-winners, to our best in class school/library publishing program, we are proud to celebrate our publishing success, but we are also looking forward to the future,” said Adam Lerner, Publisher and CEO of Lerner Publishing Group. “Through strong partnerships, innovative new digital products, and acquisitions such as Zest Books, we plan to make an even bigger impact in the marketplace and on bookshelves across the country in the years to come.”
“This is not only a momentous occasion for me and my family, but for all of the employees, authors, and illustrators who have made Lerner Publishing Group the award-winning company that it is today,” explained Harry Lerner, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Lerner Publishing Group. “We are proud to remain an independent and family-owned company and have enjoyed supporting librarians and teachers in educating children for 60 years.”
