What was your favorite book when you were a child?
Very tricky, but one book I read over and over was Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde

Kate DiCamillo, Garth Nix, and Carmen Maria Machado
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
Like many authors, I wanted to tell the stories I needed to hear as a kid, particularly the stories of queer folk.
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
Take opportunities as they come, even if they aren’t what you expected. Who knows—they could lead some interesting places!
