Blake Hoena
Blake Hoena has written more than one hundred books for children, including an original graphic novel series, Eek & Ack, and graphic novel retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Peter Pan. Blake lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with his wife, two dogs, two cats, and hundreds of comics.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien is that book that inspired me to be a writer.
What’s your favorite line from a book?
“Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.” which is the first line of 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Ursula K le Guin, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, JRR Tolkien
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
I wanted to make up stories about dragons and troll just like JRR Tolkien.

Read, Read a lot! Read the type of stories that you want to write.
