Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I didn’t have one favorite, but I loved to read the Dr. Seuss books, The Bobbsey Twins series, and Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”
—Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Dr. Seuss, Mercer Mayer, and Frances Hodgson Burnett

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I’ve loved to write since I was a child. It was my one consistent passion throughout my life. I took a long detour on my way to becoming an author by first going to law school and then practicing law for a while.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

If it’s what you really want, be tenacious and patient and join SCBWI.
