Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I still don’t know the name of it. It was this unbelievably cute book with animals and race cars that seems to be out of print. My copy is long gone.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“‘I do not fear those pants with nobody inside them.’ I said, and said, and said those words. I said them. But I lied them.” —The Sneeches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

David Catrow, Hollie Hobbie, and Lynn Munsinger.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

Being a landscaper for years in the Arizona sun had baked my brain enough that I thought I might take a shot at it.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Draw every day and be patient with yourself.
