Amanda Gorman discovered her love for the written word at a young age. She pursued poetry, using metaphors and other creative language to convey new meanings and speak about social justice issues. At sixteen, she published her first poetry collection, became the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, and served as a youth delegate to the United Nations.
After winning accolades around the country for her poetry, Gorman was invited to read her poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration, where she inspired the nation with her call for hope, unity, and justice.
