“Tara’s good intentions to help only make more work for her father when she spills the bag of potting soil, knocks the basket of clean clothes into the freshly potted planters, and tips paint on the floor. The model of patience and forgiveness, Dad merely cautions her to slow down and be more careful, and he encourages her helpfulness. The tables turn when Dad insists on carrying too many grocery bags. When they fall, it’s Tara’s turn to help clean up. In an appealing twist, Dad is shown being responsible for tasks stereotypically on a mom’s to-do list. The ever-smiling father and daughter are brightly photographed, and the simply constructed, yet engaging, energetic sentences repeat the phonics sounds that, as in other Real Kids Readers, are identified and explained at the book’s end.”
