Juliana Oakley

Juliana Oakley is an illustrator based in Bahrain who loves to work with color. She draws inspiration from her family, from travels, from nature, and childhood memories. Her illustrations often start from pencil sketches and are then finished digitally.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

All the books about Moomins by Tove Jansson.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

Beatrice Alemagna, Joohee Yoon, Victoria Semykina

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

Drawing is what I loved to do ever since I was a child, and it allows me not to grow up!

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Allow yourself to be scared and yet take little steps forward, and before you know it—you’ve climbed a mountain!
