Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I had so many, but Charlotte’s Web was definitely one. Like Wilbur and Charlotte, I grew up on a farm, talked to animals, and went to the county fair. I felt especially close to them.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“There is nothing sweeter in this sad world than the sound of someone you love calling your name.” –Kate DiCamillo, The Tale of Despereaux

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Oh, I can’t narrow it down to three or even twenty. I love so many.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

Stories are how I make sense of this world.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Read and read. Write and write. But most of all, write what brings you joy.
