Danielle Joseph
Danielle Joseph is the author of picture books and young adult novels, including the award-winning picture book I Want to Ride the Tap Tap. She was born in Cape Town, South Africa and now lives in Maryland with her family and dog Ringo. Danielle believes in the power of kindness and spreads joy wherever she can.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?
When I was a child, I was a huge fan of anything Judy Blume. My dream was to be just like her when I grew up.
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
I knew I wanted to become an author since the first grade. My teacher Mrs. Peterson said we were going to write our own books and said it could be about any topic we wanted. I was fascinated by the idea that I could create whatever I wanted by using my imagination. I still have the book that I created in her class.
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
Write because it’s your passion. Listen to the world around you and you will grow with each book that you write. And most importantly do not give up. There are so many bumps in the road that you just have to hold on for the whole ride!
