Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“One day I found a scrap of wonderfulness. Her wings were wounded but in her heart there was hope.” —The Duck and the Darklings by G Millard & SM King

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Melissa Stewart, Margaret Wild, Jackie French

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

Because I love the whole process! It’s fantastic to stumble on an idea, research it, find a way to transform it into a fun and informative story, write it, revise it (many times!), and then pass it on to the rest of the publishing team to work their magic. And in the end, I get to hold that beautiful finished book in my hands, knowing it will be read by many children who I hope will love it too.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Your local library is your best friend. Read, write, draw, paint, and most of all enjoy.
