Claudine Gévry’s love for books and drawing naturally led her to what she calls “the best job on earth: children’s book illustrator.” She has illustrated many books and is at her happiest when painting cute animals or lush plants. She lives between the mountains and the ocean in Vancouver, British Columbia.
What was your favorite book when you were a child?
Les aventures de Tintin. I wished I could have such an exciting life of travelling around the world when I would grow up.
What’s your favorite line from a book?
“Tonnerre de Brest!” Again from Tintin, it’s one of Capitaine Haddock’s favorite expressions.
Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?
Illustrators, because I am one: Elise Gravel and Isabelle Arsenault. Both are from my hometown, Montreal, and they have very different styles which I both adore!
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
Reading and drawing were my favorite things to do as a child so it’s only fitting I became a children’s book illustrator.
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
Work hard! It’s a very competitive field so you have to be very good at what you are doing and put the long hours.
