Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I read The Secret Garden over and over as a young child. Also, everything by Beverly Cleary.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was ‘Oh no, not again.’”—The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Douglas Adams, Malcolm Gladwell, Tina Fey

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I’ve always had stories to tell . . . and I’ve always felt like others should hear them.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

There is always another way. Too often, the obvious way is not the best option.
