Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

My tastes ranged pretty widely, but the books I remember loving the most were Judy Blume’s Fudge books, The Three Investigators mystery series, and the creepy tales of Edgar Allen Poe.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

It would be a line from my favorite book for young readers, Holes by Louis Sachar: “It was all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather!”

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Louis Sachar, Gordon Korman, Andrew Clements, and many more!

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I was always a creative person, every since I was a kid. My passion early on was telling stories through video and audio, but eventually I discovered I liked the writing more than the electronics. I just love absorbing a great story and being changed by the creativity of others. I hope to do the same through my writing.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

This is fairly cliche, but you have to write and write and write. It’s like a muscle, and in the way athletes or musicians must practice their craft, writers must do the same. With practice comes success!
