Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I had so many! but I especially loved the Nancy Drew series (mystery!), Robinson Crusoe (adventure!), Jane Eyre (suspense!), Wizard of Oz (fantasy!) and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe (sci-fi!).

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad. You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.” –From Alice in Wonderland, another favorite!

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Sooo many! Right now I love Mox Brallier (Last Kids on Earth), Judy Blume (4th Grade Nothing), Chris Grabenstein (Mr. Lemoncello’s Library), Nancy Springer (Enola Holmes), Anne Frank (Diary of Anne Frank)…and so many more!

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I love to read mysteries and figure out the puzzle, and I loved cracking codes when I was a kid so I thought it would be fun to write a mystery filled with secret codes. And it is fun!

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Read everything you can get your hands on, write what you love to read, and never give up on your dreams!
