Paul Volponi

Paul Volponi is an award-winning author who lives in Queens, New York. He holds an MA in American Literature and regularly makes school visits and holds Skype conferences.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Grapes of Wrath.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

Tom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck: “You’re bound to get ideas if you go thinking about stuff.”

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, Ralph Ellison.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

My students had great stories to tell, and I wanted to be that conduit.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Writing is like running around the block. It’s better to do it every day.
