Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“When it comes to controlling human beings there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts.”—Michael Ende, The Neverending Story

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Mary Brown, Rae Carson, Norman Bridwell

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

The most fun thing in life is making up a whole world and inviting other people to enjoy it with you.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Pay attention to the world around you, but try not to let it get inside you. Feel the world’s pain but don’t let it distract or disarm you. Keep writing your truth and your truth will do the speaking for you.
