Chuck Groenink is an illustrator from the Netherlands. He grew up in a small town, climbing trees, exploring forests and drawing a lot. All things he still enjoys doing, only these days he lives in Syracuse, NY, with his wife and two scraggly cats.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?
Ronja the Robber’s Daughter by Astrid Lindgren
Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?
Maurice Sendak, Mervyn Peake, and Tove Jansson
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
I grew up wanting to design space ships for Star Wars, but that seemed rather unlikely in a country that doesn’t make any good movies. So illustration seemed like the second best option. It turned out to be a much better idea.
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
Never underestimate the power of a good cup of tea.
