Cosei Kawa is an award-winning Japanese artist. His many accolades include the CCBC Choices best-of-the-year list, the Sydney Taylor Book Award Silver Medal, and the Turry’s Picture Book Award.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
A rainbow-colored small beetle flew into my mouth when I was relaxing on the grass. As it was so beautiful on my palm, I had a strong desire to draw and memorize it. Then I became an illustrator.
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
Drawing Devorah’s invisible visions is quite a challenge which brought me a new way of expression.
