Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

It’s a tie between Someone Is Eating the Sun by Ruth A. Sonneborn and The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“I don’t know half of you as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.” —Bilbo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

C. S. Lewis, Milt Kahl, Jeff Smith

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I always wanted to see books and drawings that were specifically what I wanted. The best way to do that was to make them myself. I also love to make people feel excited, scared, or best of all—laugh!

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Inspiration is everywhere. We tend to focus on one or two things that we really like, but everything is valuable and something that seems completely unrelated can give your story or drawing the spark to make it something really great.
