Interview
What was your favorite book when you were a child?
I loved and still love anything sci-fi so I was captivated by Animal Farm by George Orwell as a young teen.
What’s your favorite line from a book?
“Are you there God, it’s me Margaret.”
Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?
Along with my favorite line, I have always enjoyed Judy Bloom’s honesty. Ray Bradbury captures my imagination, as does David Brin.
Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
I didn’t set out to become an author…rather I have a master’s degree in electrical/computer engineering as I wanted to understand how computers work. I think becoming an author was part of my desire to understand how people work. I think that pursuit will take a long, long time!
Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
You cannot let your imagination run wild enough. There’s a children’s book titled Frederick where a little mouse does not help the other mice collect grains and straw for the upcoming winter, instead he collect sunshine and colors in his mind to feed the other mice’s imaginations during the long cold winter. I think all of us should collect thoughts.
