Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Outside Over There by Maurice Sendak

What’s your favorite line from a book?

From Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland:"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?""That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat."I don’t much care where—"said Alice."Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

That is a very hard question because I love so many books. My favorite authors are Maurice Sendak, Louis Sachar, and Roald Dahl because they really understand children.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

At six years old, I wrote my first story. It didn’t make much sense, but I learned how fun it was to write my ideas down. I like to read. It is exciting to think that people read things I have written.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Read, read, read!! Read all kinds of things. Write for fun. If you want to write children’s books, you must spend time with children.
