Lynne Avril

Lynne Avril grew up in Montana, but she has lived in Arizona for a long time. Lynne knew she would always be an artist, but when she was younger her other passion was for horses. As an adult, her other passion is playing the bass in blues bands. Lynne received a BA in Art from the University of Montana in Missoula, got married, has two grown children, and likes to spend as much time as possible in Paris, France.

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Mary Poppins (the original), Heidi, King of the Wind, and The Jungle Book (original).

What’s your favorite line from a book?

In Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine, when the neighborhood boy hits her valentine box with his arrow and she says, “You could have broken my heart!”

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Illustrators: The 3 M’s: Mary Blaire, Marjorie Priceman, and Myra Kahlman. Also Laura Cornell!

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

It happened by accident, but I got a job doing a little black and white book, and I immediately found that I loved when someone gave me a story and I could draw for people what I imagined when I read it, and they liked it!
