Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Humbug Witch by Lornia Balian

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“If he was a number he would be zero. If he was a food, he’d be a raisin. Zero is nothing. A raisin tastes like dirt. The end,” said Lilly.—Julius: The Baby of the World by Kevin Henkes

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Kevin Henkes, Brock Cole, Phyllis Root

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I’ve always loved playing with words. I’ve always enjoyed being around kids. Writing children’s books allow me to do what I love for the people I love.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Read what you want to write. I cannot stress this enough. Before I ever sent in my first rhyming manuscript, I read hundreds and hundreds of picture books in rhyme. To this day, I read way more books than I write.
