Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

The Secret Garden, The Betsy Tacy Books by Lovelace, and The Incredible Journey by Burnford

What’s your favorite line from a book?

I do not have it in front of me, but it is a scene from Betsy and Tacy. Tacy loses her little baby brother to a sickness and the conversation between her and Betsy is so truly how children understand the death of someone. I cry every time I read it.

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Lane Smith, Chris Monroe, Maurice Sendak, Uri Shulevitz

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

Because my parents read to me and took me to the library. I also loved to draw as a little girl so I put my two favorite things I loved to do together!

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Remember what is like to be a child, write about what you know, use your imagination, and just do it. No excuses! Write every day, even if it is just a hour.
