Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

I had many favorites. Charlotte’s Web was definitely one of them.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

"‘More, more, more,’ said the baby."
—the title line from the book by Vera B. Williams

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

I have many but, here are a few: Yoshiko Uchida, Cynthia Rylant, and Markus Zusak. My favorite illustrators are Elisa Kleven, Nancy Cote, and Vera B. Williams.

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

I’ve loved writing ever since I was a child. I’d sprawl on the floor with pen and yellow pad and write story after story.  For me, writing has always been an adventure. Aside from writing, some of my fondest childhood memories are of being read to by my mother and visiting her school library. It’s no wonder that I wanted to write children’s books when I grew up.

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Read and write for the pure pleasure of it. Don’t give up!
