by Ashley Kuehl, Editorial Director of Lerner Publications

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but makerspaces are kind of a big deal these days. Because we always like to supply our customers with what their young readers need and want, here’s a quick roundup of our new series for makers.

Let’s Draw with Crayola®! is made up of step-by-step drawing instructions. Young artists will use basic shapes such as ovals, rectangles, and half circles to create adorable animals, vehicles, monsters, robots, and more. Sample drawings are color-coded for maximum comprehension.

For tech-oriented kids, we offer Digital Makers. These titles guide upper-elementary readers through the basics of creating and safely sharing songs, videos, websites, and blogs. From considering what props a budding director will need for an online video to considering how to spread the word about a new blog post, this series has the basics young makers need to get started.

Yes, it’s all about the Makers movement is a big one now. I personally love books that take intricate STEM concepts and break them down into easy, tangible steps children can understand. Books that make learning and making fun and seemingly effortless.
