Intern - Design

Assist Creative department with various aspects of book design and production, while gaining hands-on experience, skills, and knowledge of the publishing process.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be an active member of the art department by supporting all efforts.

  • Assist the designers in laying out texts, covers, jackets, scanning artwork, etc.

  • Work on computer as necessary—design, scan artwork, download and place artwork, enter corrections, assist in communications with illustrators, attend review meetings.

  • Work in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.

  • Assist with special projects as appropriate.

  • Perform other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.

  • Experience and Necessary Skills:

  • Qualifications include experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

  • Intern will also possess the ability to communicate well—and in a professional manner—by telephone and in person with editors, art directors, designers, illustrators, authors, and colleagues.

  • A strong interest in children’s book publishing is a plus.

  • Education: At least two years of undergraduate work, graphic design/art major or related field; or currently participating in recognized educational program.
