Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD)

“This book, part of the “Sesame Street Loves Community Helpers” series, focuses on grocery store workers. It highlights how grocery store workers are helpful and why we should appreciate them as community helpers. Their varied roles are presented, including getting carts, decorating cakes, and helping shoppers find things in the store. Readers can make inferences about how they benefit from and can help grocery store workers. The photos in the text are dynamic and diverse, showing people including a father and daughter, older people, younger people, and even an abuela. In each of the books in this series, the well-known furry friends help young readers understand the contributions of many of the community helpers they might see in their own neighborhood. The Sesame Street characters are included throughout. At the end of the book is a thank you note which encourages a follow-up for the reader of the text. Includes several elements of informational texts, including a table of contents, a glossary, an index, and a read more section with additional books connected to this topic. The glossary is user-friendly and includes pictures to help readers make meaning of the terms. A good selection for elementary units on community helpers, employment, or communities.
