Bruno

Some of the More Interesting Days in My Life So Far

  • Interest Level: Kindergarten - Grade 4
  • Reading Level: Grade 2

Bruno, the cat in the checkered cap, takes life as it comes. When it’s too rainy to go outside, his friends come around for breakfast. When a fish invites him into the river, he follows it. Why not? When the canary forgets how to talk, Bruno helps out.

Days come and go, and for Bruno they always bring something interesting. And once in a while, a day comes along that is just about perfect!

These six linked stories are full of friendship, silliness, and the little moments that make life good.

Author: Catharina Valckx

Catharina Valckx was born in 1957 in De Bilt, Netherlands. She grew up in France with four sisters. She traveled back and forth between the two countries before settling down in Amsterdam. She started writing for children books after the birth of her son. Her books are like guides for a happy life. She believes (and has observed) that children are already sensitive to an absurd kind of humour at a very young age, the kind of humour that makes you smile not laugh, a comforting kind of humour.

Illustrator: Nicolas Hubesch

Nicolas Hubesch studied illustration in Strasbourg and lives in Paris, where he works as a children's book illustrator. He is also well known for his comics, which are published in many magazines.

“[A] delightfully oddball picture book. . . . young readers will be drawn to Bruno’s unfailingly positive outlook and opportunistic sense of adventure.”—Booklist
