What is Cheriton Children’s Books?

Cheriton’s mission is simple: to create books that inspire a lifelong love of learning. We believe that education begins by sparking an interest and then fanning that flame. That is why we fill our books with top-quality information that is delivered in a readable and engaging style. We take curriculum-linked topics, add innovative themes, and combine them with a color-rich design that keeps readers turning the pages—and finding out more. Our books cover a huge variety of topics, from history, geography, literature, and science through social studies and art and activity books. Whatever the topic, our aim is to reach out to readers and help them discover how rewarding learning can be.

Tell us how Cheriton started?

Cheriton was bubbling away as an idea in the back of our minds for many years while creating books as authors, editors, and designers. Then we met Lerner Publisher Services, talked about how we could work together, and decided to take the leap and begin to publish ourselves—and Cheriton Children’s Books was born!

How would you describe your publishing vision?

With every series, our aim is to create books that are packed with fact-rich information and page-turning design. When we come up with the idea for a series, we always try to think, “How can we add to this or make it different?” so that we approach curriculum-linked topics in a fresh way. We hope that comes across to readers and inspires them to pick up our books and find out more.
When we write and design our books, we try to make them accessible for all readers: lots of information for the thirsty reader and plenty of dip-in and dip-out knowledge for the less voracious reader. We want each book to have an exciting look that makes every child want to pick it up and turn the pages.
We really are passionate about making information books for children, and every series teaches us something new too! We have a shared vision for our books, and it’s always a thrill to see them come to life.
Our vision for the future is to continue to expand our list of books to create as wide an offering for readers as we can, while keeping each series fresh and unique.

Any upcoming projects you’re particularly excited about?

We are very excited about our upcoming Fall 2024 series, including our Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe? series, which examines how AI will change every aspect of our lives and explores the challenges and benefits that this amazing technology will bring.

Another favorite for Fall is Witness to War, a thoughtful and reflective series that looks at what we can learn from the eyewitness accounts of people who lived through some of the most devastating wars in history.

We are also looking forward to taking readers on an amazing road trip across the world in The Rock Cycle Road Trip, which explores the rock cycle and the amazing places in which it can be seen in action!

Last, but by no means least, our The Human Body Handbook series explores the amazing machine that is the human body in a fun, informative “handbook” format that guides readers through how the body works and how they can keep their body in tip-top shape.

Anything else you’d like to add?

We really believe that high-quality information books for children and young adults are more important today than they have ever been. Learning how to gather and evaluate information is one of the most important tools you’ll ever learn. We hope our books help young people to do that.
