Meet Kjersten Piper, Lerner’s Sales Coordinator!
If you wrote a book, what would your author bio be?
Kjersten is the author of ten previous New York Times bestsellers, all highly praised by Kirkus Reviews, J. K. Rowling, and singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. When she’s not writing really awesome books (apparently!), she spends her time taking too many photos of her beagle, watching lots of historical dramas, and daydreaming about the place she’ll travel to next. She lives in the great state of Minnesota, though she questions it from time to time, like when winter extends all the way into mid-April.
What brings you to Lerner?
When I was 8, I decided I wanted to work in book publishing. I didn’t really know what that meant at the time, but somehow, 8-year-old me ending up making career decisions for that stuck. After growing up in Illinois, college brought me back to my birthplace of Minnesota, which just so happens to be a fantastic place to be if you want to work in books. After one lucky informational interview at a Minneapolis coffee shop, I got offered a job as Lerner’s spring marketing intern, which I started in January 2018. After a couple months, the sales department decided they wanted me to stick around, so the internship developed into a cool big kid job as Sales Coordinator.
What were your favorite books as a kid? What are some favorite books you’ve read recently?
As a little kid, I loved The Tale of Despereaux. Still do. My copy is falling apart from how many times I’ve re-read it. I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan, along with the majority of the population. I annotated my copy of Deathly Hallows for fun.
As for recently, I finished the audiobook for Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine last month and it was probably one of my all-time favorites! The main character Eleanor is quirky, so blunt that it’s cringe-worthy, and the book as a whole was enchanting. So funny, but really pure and heartwarming, too.
I’m also in the middle of the audiobook for The Alice Network by Kate Quinn and while it’s completely different than Eleanor, it’s just as enjoyable. I love historical fiction, but The Alice Network puts a creative spin on it by encompassing both the World Wars within one book, which I haven’t seen before. I can’t stop listening!

What are your hobbies besides reading?
I love listening to music, playing with my dog, binge-watching TV shows, and blogging. I also like taking long walks on the beach, because who doesn’t?
