We’re pleased to support Cicely Lewis’s #ReadWoke movement, encouraging students to read books that challenge social norms and build understanding of disenfranchised groups.
Update: our giveaway is now closed!
More information about Cicely’s project is here. (There’s also a great list of books on her site, of course.)
What makes a book fit into #ReadWoke? Well, to quote Cicely, the book must:
- Challenge a social norm
- Tell the side of the oppressed
- Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised
- Seek to challenge the status quo
- Shed light on an issue that many may not perceive as being an issue
