Interview

What was your favorite book when you were a child?

Mr. Pine’s Purple House by Leonard Kessler, and Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. Both books inspired me to escape the mundane.

What’s your favorite line from a book?

“Oh, heck, It’s up to my neck. Oh, dread, It’s upmmmmmmmmmmffffffffff . . .”

Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?

Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith, David Wiesner

Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?

It’s hard to say—I can’t not draw fun things. I’m just glad there’s a way to do it and get paid!

Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?

Practice, persistence, and peers. Study as much art as you can, keep trying new things, and connect with others who have the same dream.
